Time to Declare

July 23rd, 2008 by dfm · 23 Comments

JJ sent me an email to get this thing rolling, and I think he is right.  The obvious signups for this years grand prize of either one case of QUALITY beer or equivalent prize in QUALITY hard liquor (per person, winner take all) are:

 dfm - Illinois

Astro - Tulane

jj - Washington

Snakeye - AFA

Hot Carl - Colorado

sk8 - Oregon

Everyone else needs to chime in on this comment thread and declare or stfu.  We also need to discuss the rules.  I like the rules from last year, even though jti ran the table almost end to end.  We can’t go with some crazy Algore type equation like Snake proposed, but all ideas are welcome.  The official cutoff date is August 16 at noon central for entries.  Fire away.

U:  The “Rook” officially declares for the Washington State Cougars, who may very well secure the first ‘defeated’ season here in the sfu pool.

U:  And my girl JMAC declares for JoPa.  Damn, that old coot can totally suck it.

Why Not?

July 18th, 2008 by dfm · 33 Comments

This was on the front page of the Chicago Tribune sports section today…I love it:

41088526.jpg

Niether Rex nor Kyle will be with the Bears in a year or two tops.  So why not Favre if we have the $$$?  If we got Favre we would be an instant playoff contender.  Many Bear fans harbor grudges.  Hey, I hate him as much as the next Bear fan, but if they picked him up, it means WINS.

This weekend Frank Winters, ex center of the Packers will be inducted into the Packer hall of fame and old man Favre is supposed to do the honors.  It will be an intersting weekend up here to say the least.  I can’t wait to see how this all plays out.  Either way, the Bears win since there will be a rift in the locker room, and with the fans.  Most up here are very disappointed in Favre and are hating the whole scene in general.

My evil plan (remember, my evil plans have worked out before) is to have Favre join the Vikings, and the Bears get Tarvaris Jackson, the current Viking QB.  That guy is going to be a star, mark my words.

That Is A Lot of Wings

July 17th, 2008 by dfm · 2 Comments

I see Mark Mangina got a raise.  $2.3 million per year = 4,107,876.4 wings if you eat them in the 100 wing value pack here at BW3.  Off topic, they are constructing a new BW3 right by my house, which will be glorious, hope they will have wifi - I would no doubt spend a few Saturday afternoons there as long as I can bring my SFU with me.

I think Mangina could chow all of those wings in one sitting.  I sort of hope Kansas flops back down to where they are supposed to be this year, as I get sick of seeing Mangina’s fat ass on the sidelines.  This guy makes Charlie Weis look like Pee Wee Herman.

I Would Quit

July 13th, 2008 by dfm · 4 Comments

Wow, go away for a weekend and things have exploded up here in Wisco.  You should see the papers and hear the radio shows about Old Man Favra.  If I were Aaron Rogers, I would throw my arms up in the air and quit.  What a debacle for the Packers.  So let me see if I have  all straight.

Favra retires in March, but decided to come back.  Two days before he decides to come back he decides not to.

He stays in touch with the coach and GM, and then says he wants to come back again later in the summer, but since then the Pack has run their draft, picking up not one, but TWO quarterbacks, and running Rogers through all of the first string snaps in minicamp.  Still no notice to the media about all of this.

Now Favra wants the Packers to release him so he can sign with the Bears or Vikings and kick the Packers ass because they are not enthusiastic enough.

The Packers tell him to stick it up his ass and tell him that if he is to come back he will be a Packer, but not necessarily the starter.  Fans go bezerk and hold rallies at Lambeau telling the GM to make Favra the starter.  Aaron Rogers must be totally stewing.

Bwa ha ha ha haha!!!11!!!!  Nice job Favra, way to stick it up your teams ass.

Top Ten List of Hatred

Most people like lists so here is mine, the top ten list of teams I love to hate as cfb rolls along.  Mine is a little tilted toward my Big Televen rivals, as you would imagine.

The only two things of worth that come from West Virginia are coal and strippers…

July 9th, 2008 by dfm · No Comments

That is a classic quote from none other than our very own Hot Carl.

Rodriguez finally had to pay up.  The only winners, as always, are the attorneys.  I like this part of the article:

Adding pressure to Rodriguez was a lawsuit WVU filed in a Michigan court last week, asking a judge to order Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and President Mary Sue Coleman to testify in depositions. A hearing on that request had been set for Wednesday afternoon.

You KNOW that those people did NOT want to step into the courtroom and testify in this case.  Anyway, it looks like WVU will get their $4m, but it doesn’t say who is paying it.  I am betting a UM Alum will be through a proxy at the Michigan athletic department.  Just a guess.

I have to say, this has been one of the ugliest off field incidents I have seen in cfb in a long, long time and it looks to this outsider that WVU was totally 100% right the whole way.

I hope WVU runs the table next year, and that Rodriguez sucks total ass at Michigan.  As if I didn’t hate M enough before all of this.

More Teams Need To Do This

July 8th, 2008 by dfm · 2 Comments

I really don’t give a crap about SMU, but I saw today that they are going retro this season, back to the traditional white helmet with red mustang.  NICE.

I would love to see more teams do stuff like this.  I always loved these old school Illini helmets.

Go Dawgs!

July 4th, 2008 by dfm · 1 Comment

Not those dawgs, jj.  The dogs from Fresno State!  This article from ESPN says the Bulldogs could crash the BCS.  I have been noting all of the talk about Mormons crashing it too.  I would much rather see Fresno in there, but would love to see both crash it.

Games of note - Fresno hosts Wisco on Sept. 13 in a great early season test.  They also host Rutgers and travel to fUCLA.  That is a very good non conference schedule, better than most manage to schedule.  They play on the smurf turf in their last game of the year.  Time will tell if the Bulldogs have enough to run the table, which is what they will have to do to earn a BCS berth.  I, for one have been converted to a Pat Hill fan, and will be keeping an eye on them this year.

As a side note, remember that Marcus Riley of Fresno gave us the best hit of all college football last year.  Riley was signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent.

Hope he makes the team.

“They need to get on board now or keep their mouths shut.”

July 2nd, 2008 by dfm · 29 Comments

So sayeth Aaron Rogers, the new starting QB for the Green Bay Packers who was speaking about the Packer fans.  It has people all in a tizzy up here.  WRONG way to start out eadearing your badass self to the fans.  Those words will come back to haunt him, I can guar-an-tee it.

If nothing else, I am going to enjoy watching Green Bay actually have to earn their victories this year instead of saddling up the Favra machine, or relying on one of his hundreds of miracles to get the job done.

Top 10 Traditions We Love to Hate

June 30th, 2008 by dfm · 3 Comments

There has been much weeping and renting of clothes over the recent death of UGA 6.  I don’t care, nor does anyone else not from Georgia or a fan of the Bulldogs I would assume.

But Fox Sports says that UGA is a beloved tradition.  Well, they have come out with a top ten list of hated traditions.  Lets take a look.
